Venue Guided Tours

Join us and you might find the artwork that changes your life!
Over one hundred galleries will participate in ART FAIR TOKYO 2008, offering a breathtaking array of art - from contemporary to traditional Japanese, European, antiques, and craft. Participate in Art Fair Tokyo Venue Guided Tours and specialist art writers, artists and collectors will be on hand not only to help you track down something you like but also to answer your practical questions about purchasing it. Each tour lasts for 30 to 45-minutes and will be conducted in Japanese only.

Those who have known the frustration of wanting to buy an artwork only to discover it is too expensive or already sold, please join us! Guiding you through ART FAIR TOKYO, Kenta Oka, a comedian and art collector, will teach you the easy way to become a "refined collector."


Kenta Oka: Entertainer, Yoshimoto Creative Agency Co., Ltd.
In 1983 formed a comedy duo named "Oka-Kenta-Yuta." Participates in gallery events and writes articles for newspapers and magazines from an art collector's perspective. Discusses hot subjects related to art, music and fashion in blog "Kaleidoscope."

That delightful group of art experts, Trio the Art is back! From the perspectives of an artist, a journalist and a curator, Trio the Art will explore what is attractive about art. Visiting mainly contemporary art booths, the trio will provide beginner-friendly commentary. Don't miss it!


Trio the Art (PARCO kinoshita, Takashi Shinkawa, Takaaki Soga)
Group formed at the end of 20th century. Members have visited such contemporary art exhibitions as Venice Biennale and Documenta, and held comical debriefing events to report on these exhibitions with visual images. They also made a "summer tour," in which they visited 5 cities from Hokkaido in the north to Okinawa in the south.


PARCO kinoshita: Contemporary artist and art teacher
Born 1965 in Tokushima. As a cartoonist, wrote comics for comic magazine Garo and published Hyoryu Kyoshitsu. Member of artists group "Showa 40." Held guerrilla performances at Venice Biennale and Documenta in 2007. Also made music CD with BEPPU PROJECT debuting as a singer.


Takashi Shinkawa; Art journalist
Born 1967 in Hyogo. Writes articles mainly on contemporary art for magazines and newspapers. Skilled at adapting writing tones to suit various readers, such as children, well-to-do housewives and intellectuals. Has published many books and curated a number of art exhibitions.


Takaaki Soga: Director, Contemporary Art Factory
Born 1958 in Tokyo. In 1997 renovated a factory building in Mukojima, Tokyo, to found Contemporary Art Factory. Has curated diverse events and exhibitions, mainly on young artists, and been involved in local development projects in Mukojima as an artistic adviser.

The navigators will explain what you need to know before buying an artwork and what you should be careful of while you buy. Looking at art from the completely new perspective of the potential buyer, you will feel closer to art than ever before. This program is highly recommended for those who have been thinking of buying art, but don't know how, and also those "future collectors" who want to buy when they have the money to do so. All participants in the "Virtual Art Shopping" tour will get a keepsake badge and the latest issue of VOID chicken.


VOID chicken: Art magazine published by Chiaki Sakaguchi and Hibiki Tsuge

A bilingual art magazine issued irregularly. Launched in 2001 by mother and art writer Hibiki Tsuge (aka "sabo") and Chiaki Sakaguchi (aka "sakagu"), a wanderer in the art world. Covers various topics from art to lifestyle, and is issued only when it has sufficient content. Related e-mail magazine "VOID chicken Nugget" is issued monthly, and a blog, "VOID chicken DAYS," is updated frequently.  http://voidchicke.exblog.jp


Chiaki Sakaguchi: Art writer
Has written for art and subculture magazines including ART REVIEW (UK), ARTiT, Bijutsu Techo, Shoten Kenchiku (Commercial Architecture) and Studio Voice. Has been involved in art events such as the opening exhibition of the 21st Century Museum of Contemporary Art, Kanazawa, and Yokohama Triennale 2005. Skilled at conveying what it really feels like to be at the events she covers.


Hibiki Tsuge: Mother / self publisher and art writer
Has written articles for magazines including Bijutsu Techo, ARTiT, and Men's EX. Provides news and columns on art on her blog "Tokyo Kids Art." Also manages a website dedicated to the late art critic Akiko Hyuga.
