アートフェア東京2009最終日に行われたベーコン・プライズ2009の受賞者が発表された。
受賞者は、先ごろ白金のギャラリーコンプレックスビル2階に移転した「NANZUKA UNDERGROUND」の取扱い作家である佃弘樹氏。佃氏は1978年、香川県高松市生まれ。武蔵野美術大学映像学科を卒業。ドローイングと立体を交えた展示手法で独特の世界観をつくりだしている。

佃氏には、創設者であるジョニー・ウォーカー氏の愛犬をかたどったベーコン像（帆苅祥太郎　作）と来場者による寄付金（￥126,000）が授与された。

The prize was given to Hiroki Tsukuda from NANAZUKA UNDEGROUND, a gallery which has recently moved into the Gallery Complex Building (Sirokane Art Complex) in Shirogane. Hiroki was borned in Kagawa, Takamatsu-shi and graduated the Department of Imaging arts & Sciences at Musashino Art University. His unique creation of art bases on the combination of drawings and objects.

The winner received a prize statue of Bacon (made by Shotaro Kusakari), named after Tokyo's art world mascot, Francis Bacon, a dairy kosher, Hungarian born Irish Wolfhound and the prize money of 126,000yen all donated by the attendees at the party.

昨年、A.R.T. Collection ディレクターのジョニー・ウォーカー氏によって創設され、101 Tokyoのアーティストに贈られたベーコン・プライズですが、今年はアートフェア東京とA.R.T. Collectionの共催で、アートフェア東京の若手ギャラリーセクション、@TOKIAへの出展アーティストを対象に審査が行われ、贈呈されることになりました。

ベーコン・プライズは、イギリスのアーティスト、フランシス・ベーコンの名前にちなみ、ウォーカー氏の、巨匠と同じ名前で亡くなった愛犬、フランシス・ベーコンを偲んで2008年に創設され、国籍に関係なく、日本で作品を発表した先進的で優れたアーティストに贈られる賞です。受賞者には、若手アーティスト、帆苅祥太郎氏によるベーコン(犬)の像と、来場者の寄付による賞金が授与されます。

ART FAIR TOKYO and A.R.T. Collection are pleased to host this year's Bacon Prize.

The Bacon Prize was founded by Johnnie Walker, the Director of A.R.T., a non-profit institution based in Tokyo, dedicated to encouragement and support of contemporary art in Japan. The prize was named after Walker's beloved Irish Wolfhound and Tokyo's art world mascot, Francis Bacon.

This prize is one of Japan's first international contemporary art prizes which will be awarded to an artist of any nationality. The winner receives the prize money which will be contributed by the attendees, and a statue of Bacon that is sculpted by a young emerging Japanese artist, Shotaro Hokari every year.
